LEGEND STORY : WATU BELAH ( BROKEN STONE )
Once upon a time there was a welfare Cirebon Kingdom. People lived happily. But suddenly a long drought had come. People got trouble for finding water. So the king of Cirebon kingdom ordered any one to find belik , a small spring for solving their problem.
The king promised to any one who could find a new spring, he or she would be crowned as king’s son for man or king’s daughter for woman. Then he or she could live in the Cirebon palace as long as he / she wanted. Unfortunately there was no body having power to do this challenge well. So for months people lived badly without water.
One day the king came to Posyandu (Pos Pelayanan Dukun) for help. And dukun helped and had a dream one day. Then he explained it to the king that the kingdom had to find Jaka Buluken and Nok Iyalah. They were a young couple who lived very poor in the Tiger Cave “Goa Macan” located around Gempol Village. Next the magician visited them for help. He explained what the problem was. Fortunately they agreed to help the king and people in Cirebon kingdom.
Jaka Buluken and Nok Iyalah came to Sumber in Cirebon. They came to a big stone. They sat in front of it. They had to do fasting there for 7 days and 7 nights. In the end of their fasting they had a dream that they would find a new spring if they did something “meluk kis” over there. The word of “meluk kis” means embrace and kiss. After that they did what they had to do in front the big stone. Suddenly the big stone had been broken, they could find a new spring. The spring had been covered by the big stone for years.
Finally people in Cirebon kingdom lived happily and prosperously, and Jaka Buluken and Nok Iyalah lived in the palace gladly. People around Cirebon called the village in Sumber as “ Watu Belah” ( Broken Stone ) Village.
